Fire accident numbers lowered during Chinese New Year in 2016

BANGKOK, Feb 13 (TNA) -- A total of eight fire accidents took place in the Thai capital during Chinese New Year festival in 2016, less than the same period last year, said Chakkaphan Phewngarm, deputy permanent secretary of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). Thais of Chinese descent celebrated the Lunar New Year on February 8. Mr Chakkapan quoted official statistics released by BMA that one person was killed and nine injured in the fire accidents in Bangkok between February 5 – 10. Two of the total injured persons were firefighters. Most of the fire accidents were resulted from electrical short circuits followed by lighted incense sticks left unattended. The number of fire accidents during the Chinese New Year festival this year was less than 14 and nine blaze accidents which occurred during the festivals in 2014 and 2015 respectively. (TNA)
