Fire at garbage dump site on Bangkok's outskirts limited

SAMUT PRAKAN, THAILAND, February 13 (TNA) - A fire raging at a garbage dump site in Bangkok's neighbouring Samut Prakan Province has been limited, with its total damage being surveyed. Firefighters used over 20 fire trucks and almost seven hours to bring the blaze at the waste dump in Praeksa Soi 8 under control on Friday morning, after it broke out at around 2am. Officials concerned have, however, kept closely monitoring the situation, as there has been strong wind in the area, while firefighters have remained dousing the site with water to prevent any re-spark of the blaze. Samut Prakan Deputy Governor Pornchai Sangworajade told reporters that an initial probe found the fire has raged and damaged about four rais of the 20-rai dump site (2.5 rais=1 acre). The garbage dump site was once raged by a fire 4-5 years ago, prompting the provincial authorities to have shutted down most parts of the area and have opened only a small part to sort out different types of recyclable wastes. The garbage site is located not far from another large-sized dump site raged by a strong fire in March 2014. (TNA)
