First Ambassador Of Bangladesh To Asean Presents Credentials

Jakarta, May 9 (Antara) - The ambassador of Bangladesh to Indonesia, Nazmul Quaunine, has presented his Letter of Credence to ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh, as the first Ambassador of his country to ASEAN. Secretary-General Minh congratulated Ambassador Quaunine for assuming his duty and stressed that Ambassador Quaunine could play an important role in forging cooperation between ASEAN and Bangladesh as well as within the framework of ASEAN-South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), the ASEAN Secretariat said on its website here on Friday. Secretary-General Minh encouraged Ambassador Quaunine to explore practical cooperative activities that could be undertaken between the two sides in the areas of mutual interest. The Bangladeshi ambassador briefed SG Minh on the developments in Bangladesh and its growing interest to forge close relations with ASEAN, especially in developing east west economic corridor which passes through Bangladesh, Myanmar and the rest of ASEAN Member States. Quaunine also conveyed that Bangladesh is exploring economic growth areas along its borders with India and Myanmar which will serve as gateways to ASEAN. He further informed Secretary-General Minh on the growing trade relations between Bangladesh and some ASEAN Member States. Minh briefed Ambassador Quaunine on the progress of the ASEAN Community building. They also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues of common concerns.
