First S’pore Film Festival held in Thailand

BANGKOK, March 7 (TNA) - The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore has joined hands with Thailand's SFX Cinema to organize the first-ever Singapore film festival in Bangkok, aimed to promote understanding about Singapore's cultures and traditions in the international arena. The “Singapore Film Festival 2014” is being held at SFX Cinema, located inside the up-scale Emporium shopping complex in the capital's Sukhumvit area, from March 7-9, during which two outstanding Singapore films will be shown alternately. The two films include “Ilo Ilo” and “That Girl in Pinafore”. "Ilo Ilo" is not only famous in Singapore, but it also holds an international reputation since it received the Camera D’or from the Cannes Film Festival of France last year and has been selected to be, thus, shown on other world-class stages. "That Girl in Pinafore" has been also well received among Singapore teenagers and those in Shanghai City of China. Friday's opening ceremony of the film festival was presided over by the Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Thailand, Her Excellency Chua Siew San, and Vice President for Marketing of SF Corporation Co., Ltd., Suwannee Chinchiewcharn, in which the producer of "Ilo Ilo", Wahyuni A. Hadi, and the director of "That Girl in Pinafore", Chai Yee wei, also participated, along with Singapore Embassy's staff and other relevant Singapore agencies, international diplomats and Thai and international media. The Singapore Ambassador to Thailand said, meanwhile, that the two films show the sights of her island state that are usually not seen by other countries and she believes, by seeing the films, the international viewers should understand more about Singapore, while for Singapore nationals living abroad, the films are small pieces for their home away. Interested public in the film festival can enjoy the two films at the SFX Cinema, Emporium, free of charges. To obtain a ticket, a registration for the films is to be made 30 minutes prior to the showing of the films.
