First world court room to be soon opened at Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport

BANGKOK, September 15 (TNA) - Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) plans to establish a court room at the country's main Suvarnabhumi International Aiport, the first of its kind in the world, to facilitate cases mostly involving foreign visitors. AOT Board Deputy Chairman Pongsak Semson told journalists of the initiative on Sunday, saying that the plan will be presented to the AOT board's next meeting on September 17, 2013 for an approval. Pongsak acknowledged that any case proceeding will be then conducted between the Suvarnabhumi Airport's court room and the Samut Prakan Sub-district Court or other Thai courts through a video conferencing system. According to the AOT board deputy chair, the court room can testify or issue search orders or arrest warrants for suspects at the airport. Besides, investigations can also be arranged for victims and witnesses who are foreign visitors and need to travel back to their own countries. The AOT board deputy chairman proclaimed if the plan is approved by the AOT board, Thailand's Suvarnabhumi International Airport will become the first airport in the world to have such the court room to facilitate international visitors. He added that Tuesday's AOT board meeting will also discuss possible location of the court room at the airport, as well as the arrangement and installation of equipment for the judicial video conferencing system.
