Fixing Pekalongan's Flood Damaged Roads To Cost Rp5 Bln

Pekalongan, C Java, Feb 3 (Antara) - The recent flooding in Pekalongan district will cost the local administration around Rp5 billion (around 400,000 US Dollar) for repairing damaged roads. The Head of the Economy Department in the Pekalongan Administration Abdul Baqi said on Monday that 23 roads in the region had been seriously damaged due to the recent flooding. The damaged roads were located among other in the Kedungwuni, Karangdadap, Wonokerto, Tirto, Wiradesa, and Sragi sub-districts. "We have set aside Rp5 billion to repair and maintain the damaged roads," Baqi revealed. "Most of the damaged roads are located in the flood-prone areas. The repair will be carried out after the weather gets better," he added. The local authorities will also coordinate with the provincial administration to repair the damaged roads. However, the Economy, Development and Social Welfare Assistant in the Pekalongan district administration, Moh Afib pointed out that the damaged roads had not crippled the staple food supply to the region. "People are starting to go back to normal after the flood," Afib said. Previously, flood had submerged hundreds of houses in the Kudus and Pakalongan districts in Central Java Province, following incessant rains that had caused some rivers to overflow. The heavy downpour had also triggered a landslide and floods in Pekalongan, displacing thousands of people.
