Flights operate normally at Ubon Ratchathani Airport in Thai Northeast

UBON RATCHATHANI, THAILAND, October 17 (TNA) - Commercial flights at Ubon Ratchathani Airport in the Thai Northeast have resumed to serve international passengers, following a fire which broke out at souvenir shops inside a passenger terminal on early Friday morning, injuring two airport officials from inhaling smoke. According to the airport's officials, the fire broke out at about 2am and, after being reported by airport security officers, six fire trucks rushed to the building, in which firefighters broke glass doors to enable them to go inside. Ubon Ratchathani Deputy Governor Kanchat Thansatien and Provincial Police Chief Police Major General Thawatchai Nilanut supervised the firefighters trying to urgently put off the blaze, which was raging the shops selling silk clothing and scented candles and spreading quickly to upstairs, causing damage to airport property, including a baggage x-ray machine. The provincial police chief told reporters that local police initially believed the blaze was caused by an electric short circuit, while damages were being estimated. However, Ubon Ratchathani Airport's inbound and outbound flights have operated normally after the incident. (TNA)
