Flood Affect Over 95 Thousand Residents In Jakarta

Jakarta, Feb 4 (Antara) - Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that 95,945 of its residents were affected by floods due to incessant rains pouring the capital city since Monday night until Tuesday morning. "Heavy rains last night have raised the water levels at a number of sluices so that floods return to inundate residents` houses," spokesman of BPBD Jakarta, Edy Junaedi stated on Tuesday. Based on data at the BPBD, flood waters inundate 19 urban villages in nine subdistricts, affecting 487 neighborhoods (RTs) and 69 groups of neighborhoods (RWs)with victims reaching 95,942 people or 34,698 families (KKs). "Apart from that, a total of 14,308 victims were forced to evacuate to 51 locations across the capital city," Edy Junaedi said.
