Flood continues in several Thai provinces with more rain forecast

BANGKOK, August 31 (TNA) - The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for rains to people living in the northern, northeastern and eastern regions between September 4 -6, as several provinces are still confronting with severe flooding. In the northern province of Uttaradit, village chiefs and officials inspected damages and offered assistance to villagers in Laplae district’s Dan Mae Kham Man sub-district on Sunday, after forest runoff had inundated more than 20 houses Saturday night. Many villagers lost their valuables due to the rapid runoff. The officials said more than 1,000 rai of farmland in five villages of the sub-districts were also affected by floods. In the northernmost province of Chiang Rai, officials continued searching for a school director in Phaya Mengrai district who had been swept away by forest runoff last Friday. More than 300 houses in Phaya Mengrai and Mae Pao district were now under severe floods, the officials said. In the northern province of Phichit, forest runoff from the Phetchabun mountain range, which was induced by heavy rains, inundated several houses in a village in Tap Khlo district. Concerned officials were deployed to pump floodwater from the village. (TNA)
