Flood-hit areas in Thai Northeast expected to return to normal within one week

BANGKOK, August 3 (TNA) - The Royal Irrigation Department says that the situation in flood-stricken areas in the Thai Northeast is likely to return to normal within one week. The department's deputy director-general, Somkiat Prachamwong, made the assessment on August 2, stressing that his department is accelerating releasing floodwater from the affected areas so that the situation will return to normal as soon as possible. Somkiat told journalists that his department has deployed personnel to install water pumps and water propelling machines in several affected areas to quickly release the receding floodwater to the Mekong River. According to the senior official, the flooding situation in affected areas in the Thai Northeast should return to normal by August 5-7. (TNA)
