Flood hits temples in Ayutthaya

AYUTTHAYA, Sept 25 (TNA) - Ayutthaya’s Bangban district has been hard hit by flood as many temples are under one meter of water. About 2,700 houses in 86 villages along the rivers and canals have been inundated. The Taku Temple and local communities nearby on the bank of the Bangluang canal, receiving water from the Chao Phraya River have been flooded. Roads leading to the temple have been cut off, forcing monks and local residents to travel by boat. Meanwhile, villagers called for the authorities to open sluice gates in order to divert water from flooded areas into the off-season rice fields in Bangban and Sena districts which are dry and empty now and can be used as the water retention areas.
