Flood relief provided in many provinces

BANGKOK, September 24 (TNA) - The Royal Thai Army has mobilized 30,000 soldiers to help flood victims, as many provinces have faced inundations following continual downpours over the past several days. Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha told journalists on Tuesday that the Royal Thai Army has deployed 2,000 soldiers, equipment and about 50 vehicles to help affected people in 21 flood-hit provinces. General Prayuth acknowledged that the Royal Thai Army, in collaboration with the Armed Forces Development Command, the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters and other agencies concerned, has also prepared 150 disaster-relief companies and its personnel nationwide amounting altogether about 30,000 officers who are ready for flood-relief missions in needed areas. The Thai army chief assessed that flooding this year should not be as severe as that in 2011, as it has occurred only in low-lying areas. (TNA)
