Flood remains worrisome in Trang

TRANG, Jan 22 (TNA) - Flooding in the southern province of Trang remains worrisome as officials are speeding up to repair parts of collapsed flood wall at the Trang River to prevent the water flowing into the municipality. The provincial seat remains under water while officials are using heavy machinery to repair the dyke built along the Trang River. Officials said the ongoing repair is to prevent floodwater from the north from overflowing into the municipality, which could trigger the third round of flooding. Meanwhile, one of the major tourist attractions in Trang’s Huay Yoi district, the cave of Tham Le Khao Kob, in which tourists ride in boats to see stalagmites and stalactites remains closed for the third day due to flooding. In the resort province of Krabi, where flood has receded, combined government forces have joined hands in launching a big cleaning day in the heart of the city after water from a mountain overflowed several areas more than a week. It is expected that the post-flood rehabilitation would take more than a month after more than 800 houses and business offices are damaged. Damages in Krabi are estimated at 80 million baht and, according to officials, the flood in the resort province is considered the worst in the past five decades. (TNA)
