YASOTHON, Aug 6 (TNA) - Villagers in the northeastern province of Yasothon, including the elderly and children, have evacuated from their after their homes are under floodwater, officials said Sunday. Villagers from over 40 families have moved their valuable belongings and cattle and are now staying at a temporary shelter in the forest, prepared by local authorities. The villagers decided to leave their homes after floodwater from nearby Roi Et province plus run-off from a mountain devastated farmland, roads and bridges. In Roi Et province, flooding situation seems to be worrisome after the water level in the Chi River rises between 10 – 15 centimetres daily due to the increased water discharge from the Lampao dam. The large amount of floodwater damaged several areas of water barriers along the Chi River. About 850 houses have been inundated so far along with some 10,000 rai (4,000 acres) of farmland in the province. (TNA)
