Flood in Thailand's northeast still critical

BANGKOK, October 23 (TNA) - Flooding in Thailand’s northeast Nakhon Ratchasima province remained grave on Wednesday after two major rivers burst their banks and swamped entire neighbourhoods. Deputy Mayor Boonlua Charoenvat said the waters from Lam Ta Khong and Lam Boriboon rivers had paralyzed traffic and inundated the city hall and over 300 households in 10 nearby communities. In some areas, floodwaters rose above two metres, forcing the local people to move their belongings to higher ground. Tens of thousands of rai of farmland in Non Thai district had also been submerged. Boonlua said the flood level in the province was expected to rise further between 10-20 centimetres late Wednesday, saying relief workers and the army had been prepared. However, the waters were forecast to recede in about one week without more rainfall. (TNA)
