Flooding expands in Thai South

PHATTALUNG, THAILAND, November 25 (TNA) - Runoffs have hit the Thai South, as weathermen have warned of expanding flooding and rough sea in the Lower South. Winai Buapradit, Governor of the southern Phatthalung Province, told journalists on Wednesday that continual downpours for days have caused runoffs from the Banthad Mountain Range to hit 21 villages in Khuan Khanun, Pa Phayom and Muang Districts. Winai said flooded areas are low-lying coastal zones which were about 50 centimeters under water, while officials were helping about 400 affected households and were ready to evacuate them whenever necessary. Meanwhile, the Southern Meteorological Center in Songkhla Province issued a warning that a new high pressure trough could reach the Thai Northeast on Wednesday night and would cause waves 2-3 meters high in the Gulf of Thailand and heavy downpours from Chumphon Province southwards. The southern weather center also predicted new flash floods and runoffs in the Lower Thai South, advising small boats to stay ashore during November 26-30. (TNA)
