Flooding remains in many areas, as more rain forecast across Thailand

BANGKOK, September 16 (TNA) - Several areas in Thailand remain flooded, while more downpours are forecast in all parts of the country over the next couple of days. In Khon Kaen Province in the Thai Northeast, flooding remains in the Baan Ped locality of Muang District, especially at a school for the blind and its vicinity, where floodwater was measured about 60 centimetres on Tuesday, prompting teachers to transport children to school and back to their homes by boat. In Krabi Province in the Thai South, heavy downpours caused Krabi Yai Canal to overflow, flooding nearby houses and oil palm plantations, forcing locals to move their belongings to higher grounds. In Trang Province, also in the Thai South, rising water levels in local canals overflew more than 2,000 rais of para rubber and oil palm plantations (2.5 rais = 1 acre) in Muang District, while four other districts were declared flood and landslide-prone zones, including Na Yong, Huay Yod, Yan Ta Kao and Pa Lian. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned of more heavy rainfalls from September 16-18 in all parts of Thailand, especially in the North, the Northeast, the East and southwest coastal areas, caused by impacts from Typhoon Kalmaegi, which has been moving from China's Hainan Island and is expected to reach Vietnam's upper parts by September 17.
