Flooding in Thai far South eases, cold snap hits Thai North

BANGKOK, December 29 (TNA) - The flooding situation in Thailand’s southernmost Narathiwat province has eased in most areas of all its 13 flood-hit districts after two days of no more downpours. Only riverside houses and other buildings in six communities remained inundated by some 30-60 centimetres of floodwater on Saturday, as overflows from the Sungai Kolok River have been receding. Local authorities assessed that the situation in the inundated communities should return to normal soon if there was no more rainfalls over the next three to four days. Meanwhile, thick fog was reported across Lamphun province in the Thai North on Saturday morning, when temperatures there dropped to around 16 degree Celsius, prompting cars to turn on their headlights amid the dense fog with low visibility to less than 100 metres. The Meteorological Department forecasted that temperatures in the Thai North would further drop by 4-7 degree Celsius in the coming days, with strong wind and frost foreseen in mountainous areas.
