Flooding in Thailand won’t be severe like 2011: DPM

BANGKOK, September 28 (TNA) - Flooding in Thailand this year will be less severe than in 2011 as two major dams in the North could still store large volumes of water, said Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi on Saturday. He said during the weekly TV and radio programme hosted by the prime minister that this year’s flooding situation is almost the same as last year’s, except that monsoon season arrived in the country by about one month late this year. In an attempt to ease worries among the public, Plodprasop said two major dams in the North, Bhumibol and Sirikit dams could still store about 10,000 million cubic metres more of water in combine. People, therefore, should not worry that a massive flooding like in 2011 would happen in the country this year. The deputy prime minister also assured the public that once the water management scheme worth 350 billion baht sponsored by the government is completed, key economic provinces would be safe from flooding in future.
