Floods receding in Thai East

CHANTABURI, THAILAND, July 25 (TNA) - Floods have been receding in the Thai East, but authorities concerned have closely monitored the updated water situation countrywide to effectively deal with water-related problems this year. As inundations have remained in Chantaburi and Trat Province in the Thai East, as well as Nakhon Ratchasima in the Thai Northeast, though having been receding after affecting hundreds of locals, Deputy Interior Minister Wisarn Techathirawat visited Chataburi on Thursday to inspect the updated situation in order to be reported to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. According to Chantaburi's provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office, floods have been generally receding though some areas have remained affected by up to 400 millimeters of precipitation. Chantaburi's officials have, therefore, been instructed to closely monitor the updated water situation and to promptly assist locals if the situation turned critical. Meanwhile, provincial disaster prevention and mitigation officials in Lampang and Chiang Mai Provinces in the Thai North have also been on alert to cope with possible floods and even flash floods in low-lying areas, covering preparations to evaculate and provide immediate assistance to affected people in the flood-prone areas.
