Floods receding in Thai South

THAI SOUTH, December 16 (TNA) - Inundations in the Thai South have been relieving, as downpours stopped, but the Meteorological Department has warned locals to be prepared for, possible, another round of flooding. In Phatthalung Province, floods have almost disappeared in Sri Nakharin District, but inundations remained on Tuesday morning in low-lying villages of Muang and Khuan Khanun Districts, where more than 600 households and 10,000 rais or about 16 square kilometers of farmlands were affected and a man remained missing. In Surat Thani Province, floods completely receded at a market in Chaiya District, but Lamet and Thung Sub-districts remained under 50-100 centimeters of floodwater, while locals living in low-lying areas and along the provincial coast have been warned of a new round of possible runoffs, landslides and high waves, based on the Meteorological Department's latest forecast of renewed heavy downpours, strong winds and waves until December 19. In Songkhla Province, floods in Thung Tam Sao Sub-district, including farmlands, in Hat Yai have been receding and villagers and monks were cleaning a monastery earlier hit by a runoff. (TNA)
