Floods relieve in Thai South

BANGKOK, February 27 (TNA) - Fresh floods in the Thai South have generally relieved and should disappear in a few days if there were more downpours, after having hit several areas in the region since earlier this week. In Yala province, where it had rained since February 24, floods have started receding, hours after downpours stopped Tuesday night, and local schools are now ready for reopening, but inundations have remained in many areas of Muang and Raman districts. In Talad Lang area of the Kayu Bokoh locality in Yala's Raman district, for instance, more than 30 households remained at roadside shelters and on the Sai Buri Bridge on Wednesday morning, as their village had been submerged by about one meter of floodwater; while local soldiers and municipal workers were helping transport locals with flat boats in their neighborhood. Downpours also stopped in Narathiwat province on Wednesday morning, but floods remained in 51 villages in seven districts of Sungai Kolok, Si Sakhon, Chanae, Waeng, Cho Airong, Rueso and Tak Bai, where about 6,500 people remained in trouble, about 130 of them had stayed at Thesaban 4 School as their houses had been 60-80 centimeters under water. Four local schools had been closed. (TNA)
