Floods remain in many Thai provinces

THAILAND, August 30 (TNA) - Inundations, caused by heavy rainfalls recently, have remained in many Thai provinces, especially those in the Lower Thai North, affecting thousands of households. In the central Lopburi Province, overnight downpours have triggered a heavy flooding in two areas, forcing an affected school to have closed temporarily for two days, while soldiers and police have helped local villagers move their belongings to higher ground and water pumps have been installed to drain floodwater out of residential areas. In Nakhon Sawan Province in the Lower Thai North, run-offs from a mountain in Mae Wong National Park have submerged roads and more than 1,000 local tapioca plantations, as high as over 30 meters, prompting local authorities in Nongkradon Sub-district to have set up sandbag embankments at several spots to prevent further damage. In Phichit Province, also in the Lower Thai North, continual torrential downpours have caused run-offs from the Phetchabun Mountain Range flowing into canals and rivers, prompting district chiefs to have warned locals living in low-lying areas to brace for overflows from the local water sources and move their belongings to higher grounds.
