Floods in Thai South, chilly weather in Thai North, Northeast

THAILAND, December 26 (TNA) - Floods have remained in many areas in the Thai South and the Meteorological Department has predicted a new round of heavy downpours from December 28-30, while people in seveal areas in the North and Northeast are facing the chilly weather. In the northeastern Nakhon Phanom Province, bordering Laos, the weather was reportedly very chilly on early Friday morning, as the temperature dropped to about 12 degrees Celsius, prompting provincial authorities to have declared eight districts cold-hit disaster zones. In Amnat Charoen Province, also in the Thai Northeast, villagers had to sit around bonfire to keep themselves warm, while provincial authorities were considering to announce all districts cold-hit disaster zones if the temperature fell to lower than 15 degrees Celcius for more than three consecutive days so that a budget could be urgently allocated to buy blankets and other necessities for the affected villagers. In Nan Province in the Thai North, temperatures have been falling, prompting local authorities to declare seven districts cold-stricken areas. (TNA)
