Folk games revived in Kostanai

Kostanai, March 24, 2010 (Khabar) - A festival of Kazakh folk games has taken place in Kostanai. Organisers say Nauryz is a nice opportunity to remember unfairly forgotten folk games such as the “Kara zhorga” or the “Black ambler”.
Nabidolla Kikebayev, director, “Kazak Tulpary” stud farm:
- It is just like yoga or gymnastics which were popular and then forgotten. Repatriates who returned to their homeland from Mongolia and China gave this kind of folk games a second birth.

The assyks are played in villages but not everywhere. The rules are simple as players need to hit as many bones out of the circle as possible.
Bagdaulet Asan, Zarechniy villager:
- The assyks is our national game. I watched it on the television very often. Today, I have played it for the first time with my friends and I won.
This kind of sport is not an Olympic one yet. Not everyone is able to break a horse shinbone at one hit. But Bakhyt Doszhanov did it as all specialists at the “Kazak Tulpary” know horse anatomy very well.
