Foreign Affairs Ministry Advises Malaysians In Syria To Return

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysians in Syria have been advised to return home as the security situation in the country is likely to worsen and endanger safety. The Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Malaysian embassy in Damascus also suggested that all Malaysians remain cautious and avoid non-essential travel. "The ministry also advises Malaysians to temporarily postpone visits to Syria until the situation improves," the ministry said in a statement Sunday. The Malaysia embassy also confirmed that all 168 registered Malaysians were safe and not involved in bomb blasts in central Damascus, killing 27 people and injuring 140 others. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs seeks the cooperation of Malaysians in Syria to register with the embassy," said the statement. -- BERNAMA
