Foreign military attaches briefed on Thailand's roadmap

BANGKOK, July 9 (TNA) - The Thai army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has briefed foreign military attaches on its roadmap for national reform, reconciliation and democratic development. At the briefing, organized at the Royal Thai Army Headquarters in Bangkok on Wednesday morning, Major General Pranot Saengtien, Director of the Royal Thai Army's Intelligence, and a team of NCPO spokespersons promised with the foreign military attaches from 25 countries that the junta is proceeding with its roadmap, under which Thailand's fresh general election was set to be held next year. The Thai military officers confirmed with the foreign military attaches that, under the first stage of the NCPO's roadmap, Thailand's provisional Charter will be completed within this month. Under the second stage, set from August 2014 to July 2014, a national legislative assembly, an interim government and a national reform council will be formed and a permanent Charter will be done. Under the third stage with the completed permanent Charter, Thailand's general election will be organized within next year. The NCPO also told the foreign military attaches that it does not intervene in the mass media, but insisting that the junta prohibites any domestic political activity or protest against it, while also asking other countries to help follow up opponents' movements against it, as such the movements appeared to incite unrest. Five countries that have no military attaches in Thailand sent their representatives to the briefing, including those from Ukraine, Brunei, Bangladesh, Nepal and Israel. The Thai junta has organized weekly briefings with foreign military attaches, after it has taken the national administrative power since May 22, 2014. (TNA)
