Foreign Minister attends Arab preparatory meeting

Nouakchott, July 23 (BNA): Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa today arrived in Nouakchott, Mauritania, which is hosting the 27th Arab Summit. He was received on arrival by Mauritanian Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Ministry Secretary-General Ahmed Mahmoud Ould Swaid Ahmed and Bahrain Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al-Khalifa. The Arab foreign ministers held a preparatory meeting and discussed the draft resolutions which concern the Palestinian cause, the Arab-Israeli conflict, the blatant Iranian interference in Arab countries’ internal affairs, the situation in Yemen and the Syrian crisis. The delegations also discussed draft resolutions relating to counter-terrorism and the necessity of upgrading the work of the Arab League to meet people’s aspirations and better deal with challenges confronting the Arab states. French President’s Special Envoy Pierre Vimont addressed the session highlighting recent efforts to implement the French initiative to settle the Palestinian issue. The Arab ministerial quartet in charge of following-up the crisis with Tehran regime and ways of confronting the blatant Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries has also held its third meeting. The panel includes the Kingdom of Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the Arab League Secretary-General. The committed issued a statement highlighting the recent escalation of Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries, noting the Iranian officials’ hostile, provocative and instigative statements against Arab countries. The statement condemned Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries and urged Tehran regime to end its meddlesome polices and stop aiding and abetting terrorist and subversive groups. The statement also called on Iran to stop hostile and provocative statements, stressing the importance of basing relations with the Islamic Republic on the basis of respecting the sovereignty of Arab countries and the principle of good neighborliness.
