Foreign Minister attends GCC – UN meeting

Sharm El Sheikh, Mar28(BNA) The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, participated today (Saturday) in the meeting of the GCC Ministers of Foreign Affairs with the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, on the sidelines of the Arab League Council meeting at the level of a Summit in its 26th ordinary session being held at Sharm el-Sheikh, in the Arab Republic of Egypt. During the meeting, the latest developments in the Republic of Yemen were discussed as well as the military operation being carried out by the defense alliance over the legitimacy in Yemen. The GCC Ministers of Foreign Affairs affirmed that this operation was an inevitable choice to end the terrorist coup of the Huthi militias against the legitimacy and to restore security and stability to Yemen as well as to prevent the deterioration of the situation to levels more dangerous to the security and stability of the region as a whole, after the many regional and international efforts for a political solution. The GCC Ministers of Foreign Affairs stressed that the military operation was in response to the call by the President of the Republic of Yemen, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, affirming the firm stance on the importance of the resumption of national dialogue among all Yemeni sects, based on the Gulf initiative and its implementation measures. The meeting also discussed the means of bolstering cooperation and coordination as well as developing joint work between the GCC and the UN towards regional and international issues.
