Foreign Minister meets with British official

London, Nov. 25 (BNA): Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa met with the British Undersecretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for the Middle East and North Africa Tobias Ellwood, as part of his official visit to the United Kingdom. Shaikh Khalid expressed appreciation of the deep-rooted historic relations of friendship between Bahrain and the UK and their constant growth at all levels. He affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to bolster cooperation between the two countries, praising the UK’s role at the international level as well as its keenness to bolster regional and international security and stability. Mr. Tobias Ellwood praised the advanced level of the Bahraini-British cooperation, pointing out joint keenness to further strengthen bilateral ties for the benefit of both countries. This came during the participation of Shaikh Khalid and Mr. Tobias Ellwood in the Bahraini-British Joint Committee meeting that convened today in the UK Foreign Office. Both sides reviewed ways of promoting bilateral cooperation in various fields. They also discussed ways of boosting coordination mainly in the security field as well as combating terrorism in view of the current regional challenges that threaten international security and stability. During the meeting, Public Security Chief Major General Tariq Al Hassan gave a detailed account on the terror cells busted recently in Bahrain. The meeting also shed light on preparations for the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the importance of the celebration in reflecting the outstanding ties binding both countries. The latest regional and international developments as well as issues of mutual interest were also discussed. Shaikh Khalid and Mr. Tobias Ellwood signed a bilateral cooperation agreement. Present at the meeting were Bahraini Ambassador to the UK Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Public Security Chief Major General Tariq Al-Hassan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla and representatives from the ministries of foreign affairs, interior, industry, trade, tourism and education.
