Foreign Minister Receives Nigeria's New Non-Resident Ambassador To Baghdad

Baghdad, Iraq (NINA) - Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari received a copy of the credentials of Nigeria's new non-resident ambassador to Baghdad, Hajji Haruna Angujo. Jaafari, in a statement to the Foreign Ministry, stressed "The importance of strengthening bilateral relations and pushing them towards the interests of the two peoples and to form a joint committee to ensure the development of relations and opening up investment opportunities," The minister pointed out the importance of exchanging visits between the two countries at the level of officials, expressing his hope to reopen the Nigerian embassy in Baghdad, stressing the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide the necessary support for the success of the work of the diplomatic mission. For his part, Nigeria's new ambassador in Baghdad stressed his country's interest in the stability of Iraq, especially as his country has important relations with Iraq, added "We will discuss activating the 1977 agreement and add an agreement on education, technology and information levels." During the meeting, the ambassador called for signing an agreement on cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, noting that "our countries are exposed to terrorism and we believe that it is important that we have a convention in the field of combating terrorism."/ End
