Foreign Ministry Participates in the Translation and Interpretation Institute Career Fair

Doha, March 16 (QNA) - The Translation Unit (TU) in the Media Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has participated in the Annual Career Fair 2015, organized by the Translation and Interpretation Institute (TII) at Hamad bin Khalifa University, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. Head of the Translation Unit at the Foreign Ministry Sarah Muhanna Al Naimi explained that the participation comes in the framework of strengthening the TU with unique staff of translators qualified in diverse translation fields. Such highly-qualified staff is important. They represent fundamental pillars in the work of Media Office at the Ministry. They are important for the advancement of the level of performance in MOFA to cope with the incremental flow of translations received from various embassies, offices and departments of MOFA, in addition to the meetings and conferences convened under its auspices, Al Naimi said. This requires speed and accuracy in the form of performance that reflects the position of Qatar as an influencer in the international arena. In fact, Qatar is an active member for the achievement of peace, she added. Al Naimi said that she seeks through such participation to present TU to TII students. Furthermore, she seeks to introduce the distinguished role TU plays in building a distinctive image of Qatar, regionally and internationally. As a matter of fact, translation helps in building nations and civilizations. The Head of TU explained that an intelligent translator is the one who is capable of making strategic decisions. An intelligent translator does not merely translate texts so as to give their accurate meaning. She added that this participation is a cornerstone to achieve her ambition. This ambition aims at establishing a team of competent Qatari Translators. In this team, a translator is an active individual not only in translation, but also in contributing to convergence of cultures among nations. She added that "we live, today, in a globalized world. This world makes translators imperatively dealing with other languages, and communicating to transfer sciences and knowledge between cultures and civilizations. This helps in enriching and contributing to building the future of our countries." Al Naimi indicated that this exhibition, which is organized by TII, is the first of a series of professional exhibitions which will be organized by TII on an annual basis. As it targets students studying in TII's master programs. She added: "This exhibition reflects the vision of TII, represented by Dr. Amal al-Maliki, Executive Director of the Institute. This vision aims at developing and expanding interpretation and translation fields in their academic and professional dimensions. This is implemented by establishing a generation of professional translators and creating an appropriate career path for the students, through organizing such professional exhibitions." Al Naimi explained that the exhibition seeks to draw the attention of promising young Qataris by providing them with professional opportunities, whether in the fields of translation or jobs that require proficiency of both Arabic and English languages. An Example of these jobs is the field of public relations at various institutions. This exhibition is compatible with the goal of Qatar's National Vision 2030. This goal aims at investing in the most valuable resource of our country. That is, the (human being) for the future. (QNA)
