Foreign Ministry ready to assist Thais in inundated East Europe

BANGKOK, June 4 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been on standby to immediately provide assistance to Thai nationals living in flood-hit European countries. Manasawee Srisodapol, Director General of the ministry's Department of Information, told reporters on Tuesday that his ministry has coordinated with the Thai Embassies in the flood-stricken European nations to prepare preliminary assistance to Thai nationals there. Manasawee, who is also Thai Foreign Ministry Spokesman, said that the Thai Embassies in the flooded European nations have also worked with the local public sector to provide assistance to Thai flood victims. Besides, business or student networks formed in each of the flood-hit European countries can always seek assistance from the Thai Embassies in their countries. The spokesman noted if the flooding situation in any area worsened, his ministry would urgently contact the Thai Embassy in the area to see whether additional assistance would be needed, confirming, however, that there had been no reports on any Thai national affected by the ongoing flooding in Europe. Floodwater has reportedly kept rising in several areas in East Europe, with Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic having been hardest hit, forcing thousands of affected people to evacuate to safe grounds, as at least eight people have been killed and nine others have remained missing so far.
