Foreign Ministry: Thais in Japan safe from typhoon

BANGKOK, July 10 (TNA) - Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday that Thai people living in Japan are safe from Typhoon Neoguri, which lashed Okinawa Islands on Wednesday. Thai foreign ministry spokesman Sek Wannamethee said that Typhoon Neoguri passed through Okinawa onto Kyushu Island. The Royal Thai Embassy in Japan is closely monitoring the situation and confirmed that all 96 Thai nationals living in at risk areas remained safe. He noted that the typhoon has lost much velocity and has been downgraded to tropical storm status, adding that the situation should now return to normal and no warnings are needed to be issued. However, the spokesman advised that any Thai citizens planning on traveling to Japan should keep track of the weather there closely prior to their departure. (TNA)
