Foreign reporters to visit Iran flood-hit areas

Tehran, March 28, IRNA – A number of foreign media officials and reporters departed Thursday for Iran’s flood-stricken areas to cover the sad incident that claimed lives of at least 19 Iranians, a senior official at National Disaster Management Organization (NDMO) announced. The foreign reporters will visit Golestan Province in northern Iran with coordination from Iranian NDMO, director general of Organization’s public relations Ali Bakhtiari said. Unprecedented heavy rains have caused floods in various parts of Iran since March 19. The floods claimed the lives of at least 19 people and injured more than 105 others. If other foreign correspondents are willing to visit the flood-hit areas, they have to coordinate the issue through their media offices, Bakhtiari said. At the present time, representatives from six media offices of Germany, Spain and France can visit the areas along with Iranian Red Crescent Society’s experts after their requests were confirmed by Foreign Media Department of Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the official said. In related development, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani visited flood-stricken areas in northern country on Wednesday to supervise relief operations there. Follow us on Twitter @IrnaEnglish
