Shush, Khuzestan Prov, Oct 6, IRNA – Some 400 foreign tourists have visited the ancient city of Shush in this southwestern province since late September. According to the head of the provincial Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Saeed Dinarvand, the tourists came from 20 different countries such as Germany, France, Australia, Austria, Italy, Japan and South Korea. Shush was an ancient city of the Elamite, Persian and Parthian empires of Iran. It is located in the lower Zagros Mountains, 250 km east of the Tigris River. The modern Iranian town of Shush is located at the site of ancient Susa. Two prophets, Daniel and Nehemiah, lived in Susa during the Babylonian captivity of the 6th century. The cemetery of Daniel is now one of the biggest attractions of the town. In urban history, Susa is one of the oldest-known settlements of the region. Archeologists have dated the first traces of an inhabited Neolithic village to 7000 BC. The most prominent historical heritage of the town includes Choqazanbil Temple (Ziggurat) and Acropol Castle./end
