Former rector voted to be Thai NRC's chair

BANGKOK, October 21 (TNA) - A former rector of Bangkok-based Chulalongkorn University has been voted to be the chairman of Thailand's National Reform Council (NRC). The former rector, Dr. Thienchay Kiranandana, who is also a deputy board chair of Prince Mahidol Foundation, was unanimously voted the NRC Chairman at the council's first meeting, held at the Parliament building on Tuesday morning. Dr. Thienchay then vowed to have the NRC to work out national reform as planned to meet people's expectation. Dr. Thienchai stated that the NRC has two main areas of work, including the drafting of a new Constitution and national reform, promising that the NRC under his chairmanship will adhere to honesty, transparency and answerability to the public and finish its tasks as scheduled. Pointing out that national reform objectives include the reduction of inequality and cooperation between the public and the private sectors, the NRC chair also vowed that the NRC will listen to all concerned parties and the general public.
