Former VP Expresses Concern Over Posible Drop Of Voters

Jakarta, April 9 (Antara) - Former vice president Try Sutrisono expressed concern over possible drop in the number of voters exercising their political rights in this year`s general elections. "We are now in the sophisticated technological era. We should also become more sophisticated," Try Sutrisno said after casting his vote at Polling Station (TPS) 27 in the current legislative elections, in Menteng Subdistrict, here on Wednesday. He arrived at TPS 27 at 7.30 a.m. "I deliberately come to the polling station with my wife as early as possible so that the other voters would have a good chance. It is also because I still have another social activity I have to attend (in another place)," he said. Try Sustrisno hoped that the election would run peacefully, orderly and securely. "If there are violations they should be acted upon immediately," he added. After casting his vote, Sutrisno shook hand with Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, who was also to cast votes with his wife in the polling station 27. "Congratulation! Hopefully it will all run smoothly," Sutrisno said when shaking hand with Jokowi. Jokowi, who is the Jakarta governor, has been nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) as its presidential candidate. Surveys indicated that Jokowi is the most popular among presidential hopefuls and is tipped to be the winner of the July 9 presidential race this year. A total of about 185.8 eligible voters are registered for Wednesday`s legislative elections. They elected legislators for 560 seats in the House of Representatives (DPR) and 132 members of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) in the Parliament.
