Four new Thai-Cambodian permanent points of entry planned

BANGKOK, August 29 (TNA) -- Thailand and Cambodia are determined to open four more permanent border crossings to promote economic development and relations between the two neighbouring countries. The Interior Ministers of both countries expressed the intention after concluding the three-day 5th Meeting of the Governors of Thai-Cambodian Border Provinces at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel in Bangkok on Aug 28. In his joint press conference with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Kheng, Thai Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paojinda said both sides agreed to open permanent points of entry at (1) An Ma (Ubon Ratchathani Province) – An Ses (Preah Vihear Province); (2) Ban Khao Din (Sa Kaeo Province) – Phnom Dei (Battambang Province); (3) Ban Tha Sen (Trat Province) – Thmor Da (Pursat Province); and (4) Sai Taku (Buri Ram Province) – Chup Koki (Oddor Meanchey Province). "Besides, there will be solutions to narcotics, human trafficking and other crimes along the border to maintain order. In addition, authorities of both countries will cooperate more closely. They were instructed to exchange phone numbers to allow direct contacts at all levels so that they can jointly handle situations," Gen Anupong said. Both countries also agreed to allow their workers to enter each other's border areas to work on daily and seasonal bases and promote sister cities. (TNA)
