Four organisations join forces to cope with drought and floods

BANGKOK, April 27 (TNA) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives signed a memorandum of understanding with three organisations to apply water management researches to solve water shortages and flooding. The ministry through its Royal Irrigation Department signed the document with the National Research Council of Thailand, the Agricultural Research Development Agency, and King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok. The cooperation was intended to develop the sustainable management of water resources. Thongplew Kongjun, director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department, said that the four organisations developed a program for integrated and real-time water management called NARK4.0. The program allows users to plan water management 12 months in advance with 80% accuracy. It is expected to expand farm areas in the Chao Phraya river basin by 18.02% and guarantee minimal water reserves at the level of 32.99% of reservoirs’ capacities, he said. (TNA)
