Frankfurt Book Fair Eagerly Awaiting Iran

Tehran, Oct 1, IRNA - Frankfurt International Book Fair is ready to welcome Iran as ‘a special guest’ at the cultural event because of its rich culture and history, announced the head of the exhibition on Tuesday. Juergen Boos told IRNA that he is scheduled to meet Iranian officials on the sidelines of the 66th Frankfurt International Book Fair. He blamed US-led sanctions on Iran over its nuclear energy program for the negligence of Iran’s cultural achievements at international events. This year’s exhibition is scheduled to be held from October 8 to 12, 2014. Nearly 200 titles in various sections will take part in the event, said the Secretary of Tehran Publishers and Booksellers Association (TPBA) Mahmoud Amouzegar. It is also expected that 20 publishers, literary associations or agencies will also take part in the fair. The books will cover subjects including history, religion, poetry, art, literature, Sacred Defense, wisdom and philosophy, Amouzegar noted. The London-based Iranian publisher Candle and Fog has also invited three Iranian authors to present English versions of their books at the 2014 Frankfurt Book Fair. ‘The Big Clay Jar’ by Houshang Moradi Kermani, ‘Democracy or DemoCrazy’ by Seyyed Mehdi Shojaei, and ‘Redfish’ by actress-author Katayoun Riahi are the books that will be promoted by Candle and Fog. All the three books have been translated into English by the American Iranologist Caroline Croskery. Established in 1949, Frankfurt International Book Fair is the world’s largest book exhibition. The fair, which is always exciting and innovative, plays an important part in world publication industry./end
