Frankfurt Book Fair welcomes Iran’s proposition for Guest of Honor

TEHRAN,Oct.1(MNA) -- Juergen Boos, director of the Frankfurt Book Fair expressed hopes that Iran will be the Guest of Honor in future editions of this exhibition. The Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF) is the world's largest trade fair for books. For five days more than 7,000 exhibitors from over 100 countries and more than 286,000 visitors take part. The Frankfurt Book Fair is considered to be the most important book fair in the world for international deals and trading. Guest of Honor of 2014 Frankfurt International Book Fair which will take place 8-12 October is Finland. Last October this international fair hosted 7275 exhibitors from 102 nations and is considered the world’s largest trade fair. “In addition to literary agents, about 10 thousand journalist will cover this great cultural event, 60% of whom are from the host country,” said the director. Juergen Boos pointed to the cultural cooperation with Tehran International Book Fair and said, “We hope to see more of Iranian publishers in our book fair and also hope that a better condition for promoting Iranian books and culture will be provided in Frankfurt International Book Fair.” According to Boos, around 7500 exhibitors from 100 nations including Iran will attend this year’s Fair; 65% of these exhibitors are international and 35% are from Germany. Director of Tehran Publishers and Booksellers' Association, Rafi Javaheri, announced that 200 titles by 62 Iranian exhibitors in the fields of law, religion, science, art, literature, poetry, and psychology will be showcased in this year’s Frankfurt International Book Fair. According to Javaheri, the second day of the Fair (Tuesday, October 9) is named for “Iran,” and a number of events such as the unveiling of a translated edition of Jar by Hooshang Moradi Kermani, short stories by Mehdi Shojaei and a bilingual book titled The Gold Fish by Katayoun Riahi are expected to take place with the attendance of their authors and Iran’s ambassador to Germany.
