GCC countries to coordinate relief aid to Yemen

Doha, Apr.25 (BNA): Heads of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) red crescent societies have convened for their 11th board meeting in Doha Qatar. Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) Chairman Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid Al-Khalifa deputised board member Dr. Faisal Al-Mousawi to lead Bahrain’s delegation to attend the session. The delegations decided to set up a permanent work team which includes international law experts in order to draw-up a plan which aims at extending humanitarian and relief aid to Yemeni people. Qatar will chair the panel which will coordinate with the legitimate Yemeni Government to dispatch relief in tandem with official authorities on the ground in Yemen and liaise with concerned GCC parties. BRCS Secretary-General Dr. Fawzi Abdulla Amine said that the work-team would also submit periodic reports on the humanitarian situation in Yemen and coordinate efforts to dispatch relief-aid, in addition to launching a media plan which would highlight the role of GCC red crescent societies. An operation room will be set up at the Saudi Red Crescent Society headquarters in Riyadh to liaise with other GCC red crescent associations and coordinate the relief aid which would be dispatched to the Yemeni people. The panel will also liaise with the Yemeni High Humanitarian Relief Aid Committee to set up a joint action plan and assist 11,800 Yemenis who are stranded abroad, according to figures released by the Yemeni Human Rights and Relief Minister.
