GCC security, red line for Egypt

Cairo, Aug.1 (BNA): Bahrain is able to thwart foreign-backed designs which aim at fueling internecine strife, said Egyptian journalist Al-Sayyed Al-Babli. In an article published today in Egyptian daily Al-Joumhouria, he stressed the importance of transcending religious differences to cement national unity and preserve development achievements. He warned against a plot targeting the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to subvert their security and stability and plunge them into sectarian-tainted conflicts which may lead to a devastating civil war. Al-Babli pointed out in this regard Iranian flagrant interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs as part of the foreign-backed designs. He underlined the strong stance of Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, who told His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa in a phone call: "You are not alone in the war on the scourge of terrorism. The security of the Arabian Gulf Region is a red line for Egypt. Egypt rejects any interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs". Al-Babli said that the Egyptian supportive stance came amid mounting concerns in Bahrain due to blatant Iranian interference in its internal affairs. He described the terror explosion which left two policemen dead in Sitra as a frightening development and a source of concerns for the GCC states which face foreign-backed sectarian unrest.
