"General Electric" prepares energy project for Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Aug.20 By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend: "General Electric" U.S. company prepared a project for the construction of a combined-type power plant based on combined-cycle gas turbine in Mary velayat (region) of Turkmenistan, a statement of the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Turkmenistan says. The statement notes that the proposals were presented by the president of "General Electric Power & Water" for Europe, Middle East and Africa Ricardo Cordoba at a meeting with Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. "General Electric" is a longtime partner of Turkmenistan. "General Electric" will make every effort for further expansion of cooperation with Turkmenistan, said Cordoba during a meeting. The project aims to expand the export capacities of the national electric power industry of Turkmenistan, according to the statement. The mentioned power plant is based on a combined-cycle gas turbine of the total 1586 MW worth of capacity and belongs to the engineering and technical developments of the new generation. Combined-cycle power plant is a complex of modern technological facilities. Among them are the four gas turbines of 263 MW each, two steam boilers designed for the production of 360 tonnes of steam per hour each, steam turbine and other equipment. Combined-cycle power plants are also of great interest in environmental terms, as the volumes of emissions of combustion products, in particular carbon dioxide, are reduced by two or three times. The Mary province already has an operating plant that was commissioned in 1973, based on the Shatlyk gas field. The installed capacity of the power plant is 1,685 MW.
