Georgia’s participation in anti-terrorist coalition symbolic - PM

Tbilisi, Georgia, Sept. 26 By Nana Kirtzkhalia – Trend: Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili dismissed the ‘Foreign Policy’ magazine’s report on the possibility of creating a training center for Syrian rebels on Georgia’s territory. He made the remarks Sept. 26 in New York speaking to Georgian reporters. The prime minister said his country's participation in the international anti-terrorist operation will be limited only to humanitarian component. “No training center is planned to be created on our territory, it is erroneous information. I call on journalists to be more responsible when disseminating this kind information,” the PM added. Garibashvili said Georgia “will be symbolically represented by a humanitarian mission in the anti-terrorist coalition” and a military involvement in it is out of question. Previously, the ‘Foreign Policy’ magazine, citing a representative of the U.S. administration, reported that Georgia proposed to host training camps for the Syrian opposition members. On Sept. 24 Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze strongly dismissed the possibility of creating a training center for Syrian rebels in Georgia. Panjikidze told reporters Sept. 24 that Georgia's participation in anti-terrorist operations in the Middle East will only be of humanitarian nature. “I said very clearly that our participation in this operation will be humanitarian. This is what I exactly want to emphasize once again,” Panjikidze said. The minister added that she strongly rules out the Georgian soldiers’ participation in military actions, or the establishment of any training center on the territory of Georgia.
