Government expediting assistance to flood victims in all areas

BANGKOK, November 22 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra insisted on Tuesday that her government has been concerned over the plight of people in all flood-hit areas and will be expediting financial support to all affected households. Yingluck told reporters before the Cabinet's weekly meeting at Bangkok's Government House that the government has already approved compensation plans for flood-hit households and has instructed Bangkok and provincial governors to urgently survey and gather documents and evidence to quickly hand out the financial compensations to the eligible households. According to the Pheu Thai premier, the officially-approved assistance programs for the flood-affected households include a 30,000-baht compensation each for all those whose houses have been totally damaged by the country's vast floods since late July, a 10,000-baht compensation each for all those whose vocational tools have been badly damaged and a 5,000-baht compensation each for all those whose houses have been flooded for more than seven days. Premier Yingluck said that her administration will also study and consider additionally-proposed financial compensation plans for the flood-affected households, including those raised by opposition Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva.
