Government To Maintain Peace, Harmony, Security In Malaysia - PM Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- The government will continue to do its best to maintain peace, harmony and security in the country, said Prime Minister Najib Razak. He said radical, extremist views and actions that could threaten the safety of Malaysians would not be tolerated and the authorities would act against those who did so. "When I attended the Lunar New Year open houses recently, it was heartening to see that Malaysians from all walks of life, regardless of race and creed, came together to celebrate the joyous occasion," he said in his latest post on his blog, NajibRazak.com. Open house is a Malaysian unique tradition inviting family, friends into their home especially during festive season. Najib said this was the true spirit of 1Malaysia and this was what made Malaysians unique in the eyes of the world, a multiracial society under one roof. "It is something that we must preserve and, as such, the government will continue to do our best to defend and keep our peace, harmony and security. "The safety of our nation and the harmony that exists in this country are precious. There is an unbreakable bond that binds us together and we will continue to ensure that Malaysians will continue to live in peace and harmony," he said. Meanwhile, in his official Twitter account, Najib conveyed his congratulations to Mercy Malaysia founder Dr Jemilah Mahmood on her appointment as the new chair of the Board of Trustees of the Humanitarian Leadership Academy. "Malaysia is proud that your efforts have helped people in need," he added. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies reported that the Humanitarian Leadership Academy had announced the appointment of Dr Jemilah, under secretary-general for partnerships at the IFRC, as the new chair of its board of trustees. -- BERNAMA
