Government promotes wearing traditional Thai clothes

BANGKOK, July 14 (TNA) - The government, through the Ministry of Culture, and the Bangkok Fashion Society have jointly launched a campaign to promote Thai cloth, made into contemporary outfits for everyday wearing in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty 84th birthday on August 12, 2016. Culture Minister Weera Rojpotchanarat told a press conference in Bangkok on Thursday of the Thai cloth campaign, in which four famous Thai designers, namely Chai Jiamkittikul, Platt Pladhi, Sirichai Daharanont and Wisharawish Akarasantisook, have designed 28 contemporary outfits made of Thai cloth from the Foundation of the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand. Their works will be displayed during August 1-14 at Central World shopping complex in the capital. Weera said that the campaign is part of his ministry’s five–year roadmap to create the market for Thai cloth by promoting people's wearing of traditional Thai clothes and supporting export markets for Thai cloth. "People should be proud of wearing Thai clothes and it also helps create income for Thai cloth producers in local communities", suggested the minister. (TNA)
