GOVERNMENT REP TO THE UN GA ADDRESSES SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ISSUE

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Mongolian Government's representative to the 69th session of the UN GA Ms O.Emhkhtsetseg spoke at the Second Committee plenary meeting on sustainable development on October 17. She stressed that the time has come to complete the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) and to issue the development goals beyond 2015, noting an importance of reflecting the special needs and interests of the landlocked countries into the new documents. She also highlighted a contribution of new groups descending the UN “Rio+20” Conference, namely, of the open working group on Sustainable Development and an intergovernmental committee on Sustainable Development Finance, to issuance of the basis of development goals beyond 2015. A damage of natural disasters occurred in the last four years has amounted to over 100 billion US dollars, noted O.Enkhtsetseg and expressed a hope that the third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, expected in Sendai of Japan in 2015, will define effective solutions to resist natural disasters. She informed the gathered about Mongolia’s state policies and activities, particularly about Green Development policy and its implementation.
